A university with a long history

Founded in 1881, and first granted degree-awarding powers in 1903 by Royal Charter, the University of Liverpool was one of the UK's first civic universities. It is regarded by many as the original ‘redbrick' university; the term ‘redbrick' originating from its distinctive Victoria Building, built in 1892.

Pioneering approach

The University is at the forefront of global developments in online higher education. Since launching its first online masters degree in the year 2000, the University has become a European leader in fully online postgraduate degree programmes – delivered through its partnership with Laureate Online Education.

Award winning

No fewer than nine Nobel Laureates have passed through the University's doors.
